In case you missed it, we turned five earlier this year! Ever since, we’ve been on a mission to help care homes achieve their goals, be that reaching a higher CQC rating, provide crisis interim management or just be a sounding board for managers and owners looking to improve the standard of care they provide. It’s such a privilege to help improve care homes and the lives of residents, and we’re excited to see what the next five years have in store. It hasn’t been a straightforward journey, however, as we’ve been in the midst of a global pandemic for more than half of Fulcrum’s existence. One of our Non-Executive Directors, Philip Osmond, has been reflecting on Fulcrum’s past, present and future.
You’ve got a wealth of experience in the care sector, how did you come across Fulcrum and what made you join the team?
“I’d actually used Fulcrum when I was involved with a care home in Tunbridge Wells: Fulcrum came in and improved our CQC compliance and it was a great experience. When I eventually left that care home, I said to Tony Thiru, Fulcrum’s CEO, that if there was anything I could do to help Fulcrum, I’d be happy to do so. He then suggested that I become a Non-Executive Director, and we’ve been trying to build the business ever since.”
What has your time as a Non-Executive Director looked like?
“It’s been hard work because, of course, COVID has intervened. COVID was devastating, especially for care homes, but it did provide Fulcrum with an opportunity to get involved and make a positive impact on the care sector. At the beginning of the pandemic, we were involved in setting up a care facility, at very short notice, in the southeast of Kent.
“It has been a very, very challenging time for all businesses, particularly those providing professional services, like Fulcrum, but Tony has worked very hard, as have many other of the Fulcrum consultants, rushing around from one home to the next during these difficult times, to provide advice and resolve issues as they’ve arisen. Now that things are getting better and back to normal, we’re trying to expand Fulcrum’s work in managing care homes for owners and investors.”
How can Fulcrum best add value to care home providers?
“Fulcrum can offer a very wide range of experience, both from the existing consultants, many of whom have provided advice to care homes and have worked as consultants for many years; but also, Fulcrum can provide a wide range of experience to people who want to get an overall view of the care industry, particularly in elderly care, because we provide services right across the board in dementia homes, nursing homes, residential homes, and CQC compliance, as well as in business management.
“If we can find the right calibre and quality of consultants, that is to say, people who can go into homes and provide up to date and practical advice on how to improve compliance and business processes, then Fulcrum will undoubtedly grow even faster than it has done over the last few years.”
