Background to the care home’s Covid problem
Fulcrum Care’s consultants were contacted last week by a local authority regarding a small 20-bed care home. With the manager in sudden isolation and staff absent because of Covid, key departments such as the kitchen and cleaning were unable to operate. In addition, agency staff that had been drafted in lacked direction.
Fulcrum’s quick reaction to an urgent situation
After being contacted by the care home manager, Fulcrum’s care home consultants’ quick reaction meant that we had an interim manager in place within hours. We were first contacted about the issue on a Thursday at 4pm and by 7pm that same day we had appointed the interim manager, who was at the home at 9am the following morning and able to provide essential weekend cover.
What did this mean for the care home?
Continuity of operations is key for care homes who need to be able to provide their services 24/7/365. Fulcrum is very well versed in responding to this type of scenario and our expert team was on hand to solve the problem quickly and efficiently. For the local authority, this meant that they were able to mitigate the risk of provider failure which could have meant, as a worst-case scenario, moving out all residents to other care settings at short notice.
Why were Fulcrum Care ‘drafted in’ by the local authority?
Care homes are 24-7-365, so Fulcrum Care is structured to be available to support our clients flexibly, often working across the weekends and holidays. Our well-known ability to respond flexibly means we can give care-home owners and providers the support they need, when they need it. We understand that if a situation escalates, care homes might need expert care consultancy at the last minute.
