Surbiton Care Home Rated ‘Good’ in Latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) Assessment
Surbiton, UK – March 2025
Surbiton Care Home has received a ‘Good’ rating in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessment, marking a significant improvement and reflecting the dedication of staff, leadership, and external support from Fulcrum Care in achieving excellence in care provision.
The assessment, conducted between 8 January and 21 January 2025, reviewed the home’s progress since the last inspection, particularly in the key areas of safety and leadership. The report highlights significant improvements, with the home now meeting all regulatory requirements and exceeding expectations in several areas.
The CQC report found that the home effectively manages risk with robust safety protocols and staff training, ensuring a secure environment where residents are highly satisfied and praise the genuine care provided; moreover, strong leadership—supported by Fulcrum Care—has fostered a positive culture and past governance issues have been addressed to achieve full compliance with the Health and Social Care Act regulations.
Fulcrum Care’s Role in Driving Improvements
Surbiton Care Home has worked in close collaboration with Fulcrum Care, a leading care consultancy that provides expert guidance to care homes in achieving compliance, improving care quality, and enhancing operational efficiency.
“We are incredibly proud of Surbiton Care Home’s achievement,” said Trish Kelly, Operations Director of Fulcrum Care. “Our team has worked closely with the care home, providing expert advice, training, and governance support to ensure the highest standards of care. This result is a testament to the commitment of the care home’s staff and leadership.”
“Our role was to provide a fresh perspective, identifying best practices and areas for improvement. The team was incredibly welcoming and receptive to our suggestions, actioning our feedback without hesitation. What was remarkable was how quickly they implemented changes, demonstrating their commitment to continuous improvement. We are proud to have supported such a dedicated team, and you could see the impact of their hard work reflected in the positive outcomes of the official inspection.”
A Commitment to Continuous Improvement
The CQC assessment noted that Surbiton Care Home is dedicated to continuous learning and innovation, with a proactive approach to enhancing residents’ quality of life. Regular audits, safety checks, and staff development programs are in place to maintain high standards of care.
Jon Stanley, Chief Operating Officer at CHD Living, commented:
“The ‘Good’ rating is a reflection of the true dedication of our team at Surbiton Care Home. However, the reality is that care homes like ours have had to wait years for an official review, while regulatory focus remains on underperforming services. The current system not only fails to acknowledge improvements but also leaves high-quality providers in limbo, with outdated ratings failing to reflect the true standard of care being delivered today.
This is why we took control of the situation, ensuring external, independent assessments provide an accurate and up-to-date picture of our services. We refuse to let bureaucratic delays stand in the way of high-quality care and the recognition our teams deserve.”
A government-commissioned review into the CQC’s effectiveness has exposed systemic failures, including inconsistent regulatory decisions, a lack of clinical expertise among inspectors, and outdated IT systems. The report also revealed a sharp decline in the number of CQC inspections compared to pre-pandemic levels, leaving many high-quality care providers unreviewed for years.
Surbiton Care Home and Fulcrum Care will continue their partnership to sustain and build upon these improvements, with an ongoing focus on resident well-being, staff development, and best practice implementation.
