Managed asset support & interim care home management for a 90-bed Scottish service

Planned interim and asset management ensures smooth transition, regulatory compliance, and resident stability ahead of provider exit.

Strategic Interim Management and Asset Oversight Following Provider Exit

Earlier this year, Fulcrum Care was approached by the Landlord’s representative for a 90-bed care home in Scotland after receiving notice that the existing care provider would be withdrawing from operations in the near future. With limited time to act, the representative sought expert support to ensure a smooth, well-managed transition protecting the well-being of residents, supporting staff, and safeguarding the long-term value of the home.

The representative acted with foresight, recognising the importance of continuity of care and service stability. Fulcrum was appointed less than three weeks before the transition deadline to take over interim operational management and asset oversight. Our early involvement allowed for a controlled handover and continuity of care avoiding the disruption and risk that often come with sudden changes in leadership.

Reinforcing compliance and quality of care

Alongside day-to-day management, our team conducted a full review of care governance, compliance, and clinical practices to ensure the service remained fully aligned with Care Inspectorate standards throughout the transition. Updated care documentation was implemented, and a secure, cloud-based care management system was introduced to enhance oversight and record-keeping.

Complaint processes were reviewed and re-established, and we carried out quality assurance checks across all key operational areas, including medication handling, infection control, and safeguarding protocols. Because Fulcrum was able to start this work before the outgoing provider had fully stepped away, the service-maintained stability while strengthening quality and compliance from the outset.

With the landlord and his representative’s full support, Fulcrum engaged directly with the Care Inspectorate Scotland in October 2024. The process was enabled by the collaborative and resilient approach of both CI Scotland and the local authority, whose constructive partnership helped ensure a smooth and timely registration process.

Preparing for a smooth future transition

In anticipation of a future sale or transfer of ownership, Fulcrum made sure that all legal, regulatory, and compliance documentation was accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible. Although Fulcrum is not the long-term owner, our role has been likened to fostering the service stabilising it, supporting the existing team and residents, and preparing it for successful transition to new ownership.

We worked directly with legal advisors, and regulators to oversee every stage of the transition, allowing for a smooth and professional handover process with minimal complications or delays.

Lasting impact

Thanks to Fulcrum’s swift response, expert management, and early involvement, the care home remained fully operational throughout the transition period. There was no disruption to resident care and only minimal impact on staff. Today, the service is stable, compliant, and well-managed positioned as a strong, ready-to-transfer asset for future buyers or operators.

88 residents remained in place, all staff retained their positions, and service delivery continued without disruption.

“Fulcrum stepped in at a time when everything felt uncertain. They quickly took control, calmed the situation, and made sure the residents and staff were fully supported. Their knowledge, kindness, and professionalism have been invaluable and they’ve made this home a strong asset again.”
